I have recently returned from a trip to Nepal where I embarked on what I thought would be a journey of self-discovery to trek to Everest Base Camp. Two years ago, I made some lifestyle changes which included my health, relationships and working environments and I wanted to challenge myself and get out my comfort zone.
I lost 40kgs, took on a tough training regime, changed jobs, met and fell in love with my now husband and we made the decision to trek together. What I didn’t consider was the self-discovery that would take place prior to the trek.
As hard as the trek was, especially dealing with the freezing temperatures (-15C to -28C), all the changes I had made had placed me in good stead for reaching my goal of Base Camp. All the early mornings, discipline, blood, sweat and tears was totally worth it. I was trekking through the most breathtaking scenery in the Himalayas with a husband who encouraged me and a team that rallied around me when it was mentally and physically tough.
I recently read a quote that said, “Transformation is often more about unlearning than learning ~ Richard Rohr”. I’ve learnt to believe in myself, to let go of all the toxic energy, opened myself up to new possibilities and literally came out on top of the world!
